Here is what you should do:. . 1) Use proper business letter format.. 2) Be formal: you are writing to your respected authority figures, not your buddies. Don't use slang or text abbreviations. Proofread your work so that it is free from errors. . 3) Address the letter to your teacher(s) by name, not "to whom it may concern.". 4) Begin the letter by stating exactly what the purpose of the letter is. For example, "Please consider me for the 2011-2012 student council" would be a good first sentence after "Dear ___.". 5) In your letter, describe your qualifications. For example, are you involved in any extra-curricular activities at the school, such as a sport or club? Do other students know you as a problem-solver? Do you have a leadership position is any organization, such as scouting? . 6) Include your academic record, if it is good. Are you a good student? Do you turn all assignments in on time? Do you participate in classes?
