When Life Offers You Challenges, the Underwood Law Office Offers you Help

    PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. has been practicing law over twenty years. After getting his undergraduate degree from ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee and, thereafter, his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee, he began his career as a prosecutor in Hamilton County (Chattanooga, Tennessee) as an Assistant District Attorney General. He prosecuted hundreds of child support, criminal contempt, visitation and paternity cases.

He later returned to Knoxville as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Knoxville Law Department and developed additional experience in such areas as: employment law, employment practices, Title VII, race discrimination, sex discrimination, disability discrimination, worker's compensation, contracts, vehicle liability, civil rights, police misconduct, premises liability. Fair Housing Act violations; among other areas.

In 1999, he left the public sector and went into private practice where he has been since. In addition to continuing to practice in the listed areas above, Attorney Underwood also expanded his practice areas to include: criminal defense (federal & state; felonies & misdemeanors), Wills & Estates, probate litigation, family law, father's rights, contested divorce, insurance defense, insurance subrogation, premises liability, products liability, construction litigation and representation of professional athletes.

Less than 10% of all cases make it to trial. Therefore if your case is one of the ones that gets to trial, you want to have an attorney with a lot of experience inside the courtroom representing you. That is especially true regarding jury trials. Accordingly, from the time he started practicing law approximately twenty years ago through today, Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. has had hundreds of trials (jury and judge). He enjoys being inside the courtroom. He's not afraid of the courtroom (some lawyers are) and his experience enables him to aggressively and effectively represent his clients in the courtroom. He has frequently handled complex litigation.

On the other hand, many times cases get resolved through negotiations far away from the courtroom and in the board room, instead. Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. understands that dynamic as well and is equally aggressive negotiating in the board room on behalf of his clients.

Whether he's defending a corporation in a liability lawsuit; defending a father's rights case in civil or criminal court, defending a company in a worker's compensation case, or negotiating favorable contract terms for a pro athlete in the board room; Attorney George T. Underwood. Jr. understands the importance of strong aggressive representation of the client to get justice for the client.

    COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Equally important to practicing law is giving back to and being involved in the community he serves. Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. is active in bar associations he belongs to such as the Knoxville Bar Association (KBA), the Tennessee Alliance for Black Lawyers (TABL), the William H. Hastie Bar Association (WHH), the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA) and the National Bar Association (NBA).

He is also very active in numerous local civic and community groups.

    AWARDS & HONORS

It is very humbling when people and organizations publicly recognize your efforts with awards. That is why Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. is appreciative of the Lincoln Memorial University- Duncan School of Law awarding him the 2010 Adjunct Law Professor of the Year Award for teaching Lawyering Skills II. He is also honored to be a past recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Commission of Greater Knoxville - ADVOCACY AWARD (2005); and he is equally thankful for having been chosen to receive the Knoxville Bar Association President's Award (1996).

    HOBBIES

As a former NCAA Division I scholarship athlete (basketball) it is not surprising that many of the hobbies Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. enjoys involve physical activity. Some of his hobbies include: biking, basketball & other sports, health club workouts, traveling, leisure reading and community organizing.

    GEOGRAPHIC SERVICE AREA

Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. provides legal services throughout east Tennessee from Chattanooga to Knoxville on up to the tri-cities (Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol) and all points in between.

He is licensed to practice law throughout the entire state of Tennessee and represents clients in other parts of the state as well, as retained to do so.

    CUSTOMER SERVICE

Finally, Attorney George T. Underwood, Jr. understands that when people need a lawyer they want that lawyer to be available. That is why he always strives to provide quality professional client customer service and return phone calls within 24 hours; offer clients evening and weekend appointments if needed to accommodate their busy schedules and provide quality legal service at reasonable rates and strives to achieve manageable payment arrangements.

A drivers license is not required and the florida title with you in NY has nothing to do with this. All you need is the title to the car. When you get it, fill out the necessary parts, take it to your NY DMV, get a title in your name, pay the fees and the car will be yours

Old & New Testament?

Sincerely,.

Did you have a will or other estate planning documents done after your baby was born? Did you see a lawyer, and if so, what documents did you have done? I am most concerned about choosing someone to take care of my son if we both die
