I graduated college 2 years ago and I recently moved out to Los Angles to pursue a career in the industry. I have a full time job working at NBC Universal and I am making some good income. Recently I was offered an UNpaid internship at a production company. I've been working at this intern during my off time when I'm not working at NBC and I love it! However, the owner of the production company didn't realize that I wasn't a student. He doesn't want to let me go because I've been proven to be very reliable and helpful to him and his company. He also can't afford to pay me anything and I understood this before accepting the unpaid position. But he needs to keep himself and his company safe when it comes to Labor Laws which is understandable.... . HERE is my question...What are the exact laws when dealing with unpaid internships for 'interns' that are not students? ASKING him to pay me is NOT an option. I am 100% satisfied not getting paid to get a foot in a door at a small creditable production company. I make a good living with my full time job, this internship is mainly to help myself advance in my career and also keep me busy during my down time.
