• Nick Oweyssi moved to Houston in 1977, where he ultimately began his career as a college professor. As an educator, he received teaching awards and authored numerous publications.?He demonstrated his talent for advocacy as he served as vice president of the local chapter of the American Federation of Teachers/AFL-CIO for five consecutive terms. In that capacity, he was responsible for investigating harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination cases, acting as a mediator for employee-supervisor conflicts, negotiating work condition issues with management, and serving as a writer and editor for the union newsletter, The Advocate.

  Oweyssi's success as a mediator and negotiator led him to law school, where he excelled in written and oral advocacy - participating in regional and national Moot Court competitions. During law school, he served as judicial clerk to the Honorable Patricia Kerrigan in the 190th Civil District Court of Harris County. He worked as an Associate at the DeBorde Firm, litigating state and federal cases, prior to establishing the Oweyssi Law Firm. His success as a litigator has been recognized in a statewide magazine.
