He was appointed to the United States Naval Academy by US Senator Hiram Fong of Hawai'i and graduated in 1976 with a bachelor of science degree in Ocean Engineering. He served as a line officer for five years concluding with a tour as Admiral's Aide for COMNAVBASE/COMNAVLOGPAC.

  Following active service in the US Navy, Mr. Schmitt returned home to Hawai'i where he entered the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai'i where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.

  Following his law school graduation in 1984, Mr. Schmitt began practicing law in Honolulu with concentration in the areas of construction litigation, admiralty and maritime matters, insurance defense, commercial litigation, technology, and products liability. Because of his background as an engineer, he has worked on a wide variety of construction litigation and product liability matters.

  Mr. Schmitt served as a Captain in the US Naval Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps and for 12 years was counsel to the Commander-in-Chief Pacific regarding Law of War, Law of the Sea, and International Legal Affairs. He recently retired with the rank of Captain. Following his representation of entities involved in the development and commercial marketing of ocean resources, energy (OTEC, wave energy, sea water cooling, etc.) and aquaculture enterprises, Mr. Schmitt received the Ocean Service Award from the Pacific Congress for Science and Technology in 1997.

It differs from person to person so I would not comment on particularly this physician who had multiple strokes and has Hypertension because without seeing him, it is impossible to give an opinion about his mental status and competency to make decision. It is his physician and family member who can reach to some conclusion if they feel patient is not competent. If patient is completely fine, in the normal state of mind then definitely his wishes to be DNR must be followed at any cost.

i heard from someone that lawyers don't need chemistry because forensic scientists take care of it. i thought lawyers do need to know chemistry, things like blood drying up, alcohol in someones blood system, etc. am i wrong? do lawyers need chemistry or is it just good to know?.

If you write a sincere letter, even if it has misspelled words, or grammatical errors, it will be appreciated. Anytime you have something to say in a memorial of a lost loved one, it is a tribute to that person. Write from the heart and you will be okay. SSA cares about the correctness of the individual- name, date of birth, etc. Are you the same person as the one who got the SSAN ten years ago? That's what they care about. Sure, they will also verify that you have a right to earn money using that SSAN, but that's not their main function. On the other hand, CIS wants to make sure you have the legal right to be in the USA. If you had an SSAN ten years ago, they'll run a check to see if you were "in status" at the time you earned money with that SSAN. They might check to see if anyone has been earning money with that SSAN during the ten years you've been outside the USA. That could indicate that you have been living here illegally and working illegally. That might give them sufficient reason to deny you your spouse green card.
