No. You have to show the paperwork of the new name change to Social Security so they can change their records. Then everything will be fine. I changed my first name legally and showed the paperwork to Social Security and they mailed me a new Social Security card and everything has been fine since.

PLUS, the longer my grandmothers lies on the hospital bed the more chance she has to get worse in other ways.. Wouldn't doctors take into consideration that this patient is very elderly and should not be "hanging out" in a germ-infested place like a hospital? It might be a different story if my grandmother were 40 years old. Why are they not considering letting my grandmother go home and sit in her chair while the doctor takes his time looking at the x-rays.. What are the options my mother has for taking out of that hospital? She doesn't want to refuse treatment she just wants to take my grandmother home.. . A 40 year old might stand the chance of recovering well from surgery. But for someone who is 100 and in good health relatively speaking, why isn't this doctor saying to my mother, "Well, the alternative is we can just let her go home and deal with the pain in other ways." - or something to that affect.. . There must be something else they are not suggesting for us.. . Thank you for any info.. A concerned grandchild..
