I admit I am not a "pro" but I have had a lot of experience over the past couple of decades clearing out and/or organizing homes and estates of friends and family members. I have found that the least stressful way to handle it (especially when dealing with people who have sentimental attachments to stuff or are borderline or full-fledged hoarders) is to concentrate on sorting EVERYTHING into closely related piles or boxes. Rather than judging whether an individual item is old or new, special or not, disposable or not, it seems to work better to get everything in one pile, like ALL jewelry, ALL shoes, ALL family photos, ALL books, etc. Once the person sees how much they have of a single category of item, it seems to be easier for them to evaluate what is worth keeping or not. It also gives you a better idea as the organizer of what volume of storage you need to account for to get that collection put away.
This doesn't bother hiring managers a bit - what we are interested in is your ability to convince us in the cover letter that you are qualified for the job. Here's the trick: always make sure that you are talking objectively about your experience and qualifications and how they relate to the specific position for which you are applying.. . For example, if you're applying for a computer programmer position and one of the requirements is experience in .NET programming, you could say: "I have five years experience with .NET technologies and have designed and implemented four different transaction processing systems that reduced work time by 32%." This is not bragging or being self-centered. It's an objective statement of your experience and the results achieved from that experience.
When do you need Power of Attorney?
There is an attorney-client relationship, but there are circumstances under which you may loose some of that privilege if the attorney has to sue you to collect on payments due under the contractual agreement.. . And it is not entirely true that the attorney can't speak about anything you discuss. If you tell your attorney something that demonstrates that you pose a risk to yourself or others and the attorney can prevent that danger, s/he may disclose otherwise confidential information. Most lawyers take great pains not to have to resort to this.
