I also believe that enrollment will be higher than anticipated. People like my mom will stop offering health care coverage to their employees. She currently pays part of the health plan premiums for her employees. As a small business owner, I've no doubt that she would drop it to shed the cost if a national plan was available for her employees. That would mean people who were previously carrying private insurance would begin to drain the national plan. I'm sure there would be many small businesses that would follow suit.. . I believe that just as much could be accomplished to make health care more affordable by eliminating some of the other causes for high cost of coverage. It frightens me to think that we could end up with millions of people dependent on a bad program. Medicaid and Medicare have both proven to be failures. I fear the same would happen with a new national plan.. . Edit - I noticed your follow up about having an option to pay for private care or pay for the national plan with taxes. The problem is that most of the people who would be using the national plan wouldn't be able to afford fully funding it. Those with private insurance would be taxed for it in addition to paying for their own coverage. The math doesn't work any other way.
