Tips for a good college application?
If you find a job that's really a good fit for you, it's worth taking the time to write a good cover letter that demonstrates your interest in and qualifications for that *particular* position.. . Look at it this way. Let's say you apply to 50 jobs you don't really care about with a generic cover letter, and you spend 5 minutes per application. You're spending over 6 hours, and for any one of those jobs you're probably in the bottom 25% of applicants because you're not catching their eyes.. . Now let's say you spend those 6 hours applying for your dream job, making sure everything from your resume to your cover letter to all of your e-mail correspondence with that company is *perfect* for what they're looking for. You're going to end up in the top 10% of applicants for your *dream job* -- why would you settle for less?. . Obviously you may not want to put all of your eggs in just one basket, but I would suggest to you that you are more likely to get hired if they know that you really want that job.
