Litigation

I'm writing freelance for an online article site, (not for the money, I make pennies daily) and I'm running out of topics to write about. This is something I feel I need to continue doing for myself. Personally, it gives me a little pleasure in my daily grind and it's something I can do in a field I'm very interested in.

name change on social security card?

HI. I changed my surname a few years back (UK) and also removed my middle initial. Strangely, it was more time consuming confirming organisations had got rid of the middle initial than my surname change which was quite straightforward with copies of the deedpoll certificate.. I'm female and had several places automatically call me Mrs and congratulate me on a wedding which was quite funny and presumptative, I thought, as it was a personal choice unrelated to a partner/husband!. . Also by accident, which I cringe about now, my name change was very similar to a lecturer at uni I had (same sound when pronounced but different spelling) both before and after the change. It was totally not on my mind when I picked my name (totally different to my birth surname) and I still cringe now remembering his face when I told him I'd changed it- very awkward! Am sure he thought I was a crazed potential stalker or something- I'd spent 6 months trying to narrow the choice down and his name was not in my mind when I finally picked it- LOL. . Probably won't happen to u if it's close to your current name. I changed mine for similar reasons as it was too long to say and I did a lot of call centre work that required me to say my full name up to 100 times a day- trust me, that's one way to discover your name is a pain!. . Also, be prepared for a lot of questions, teasing, new nicknames and name rhymes if your social circle is anything like mine. A couple of people refused to accept my new surname - some people, eh!. . Also, without knowing, I picked a name of scottish descent and had a few scottish people ask where my family came from- answering the truth- Liverpool, got tiresome after so many questions so I ended up saying "I think it was Edinburgh a long time ago" and that always seemed to go down well!. . So, summing up, I'd say go for it, because overall I don't regret it. I still get asked which spelling there should be of my name as there are three variations, but as it only has 4 letters in rather than 7, I am still glad I went for it.. . Also, is a dead easy process in the UK so best of luck, but I'd advise trialling it in your head and googling it for at least a month to see if there are any celebrities etc in the news with it- that came up for me too when a z-lister was doing the rounds with my new surname! This stuff will happen so toughen up your skin in preparation but be confident about your reasons when people ask why as in my experience some people feel it's very odd to somehow disassociate yourself from your family heritage - although women doing it through marriage is still acceptable!. . Sorry for rambling- should really turn in for the night:-)

I'm thinking of visiting and then possibly moving after completing Urban Planning at university. According to PayScale the salary is good there..
