Without knowing the nature of your appeal, I can answer only in general terms. Your letter need not sound stiff and formal, but it should sound natural and sincere. You may be able to accomplish this more effectively by writing in a tone or voice that reflects YOU. I see nothing at all wrong with the letter you've posted here.. . I noticed that you've used contractions exclusively in your letter here. I would strike a balance and use both contractions and subject/verb written out. You'll know when to do this, by the "sound" of your sentences.. . Above all, be respectful. Don't come across as brash or flippant (you don't in your letter here), and do be courteous and polite.

you've been friends with this girl for years and you've secretly liked her but never went for it b/c you thought the chances of being w. her were slim only to find out that after all this time, she felt the same way back - she's the first girl you fell in love but you two decided to stay friends and not rush (if it happens later, it happens) When things were going to get normal again, "life challenges" (death) and rumors/assumptions from friends made you two drift apart and it created tension BUT rather than giving up or seeking revenge, you two worked it out and everything is starting to be better than before, the relationship grew stronger..

Its a business letter :D . looks like this! :D.
