    You also have to think about federal odometer disclosure requirements. If the vehicle is newer than 10 years you must do an ODO disclosure on the title, meaning you will have to get the current title replaced (if it's lost) and then switched over. Some states have secure odometer disclosure and power of attorney forms so you would not have to go through the replacement process prior to transfer. If the vehicle is 10 years old or older then you don't have to worry about the ODO issue.. . I would recommend calling the DMV where the title was issued, or if you live in another state call that DMV, and see what they tell you. It's easier if they can look at the vehicle record and tell you what you need.
