Yes, you can send the collection agency a validation request, but do NOT any of the templates you find on the internet -- especially at "credit expert" sites. Those form letters are just chock full of bad info and are very aggressive. Just use your own words. You'll get much better response.. . By the way, that letter you got in the mail probably contains everything the FDCPA requires a collection agency to do to validate the debt. If this debt is not yours, ask them for proof the debt belongs to you, including copies of contracts or other documentation.. . You shouldn't have ignored all those invoices. It would have been smarter to have responded to the invoices in writing indicating you didn't order or receive the merchandise. Now you will have to deal with the collection agency.
