Transgendered and changing name over two countries, cost and proccess...?
I inherited my fathers property and a solicitor changed the name on the deeds of the property to my name. There is still a mortgage debt and the bank tells me that the propertys deeds should not of been changed without them knowing. I knew nothing of the protocol, and was surprised to hear this news. The bank is requesting payment of the mortgage. I have asked them for the original mortage agreement terms and conditions which they say dont exsist! Surely they must do? I dont know if I am actually responsible for the debt? I also have the property on the market for sale and I dont know if this complicates the sale legaly? Does anyone know my rights out there? The bank tell me something different every time!.

Claiming back your charges is easy. You need to go to your bank and ask them for all your statements for the last six years, they will charge you for this, up to ?10 and may take up to 40 days to supply the info. When you have the info highlight all the charges and then write to them to ask them for the money back. There are loads of template letters on internet that you can use. There are also companies that will do the whole thing for you for a fee, but it is so easy I wouldn't bother.. If it is only certain charges, contact the bank first and just ask if they will refund they wil usually consider it depending on how you run your account.
It would be best to go forward in the jurisdiction where your father was a resident when he died. It may also depend on how long ago this happened. It would also depend on what assets were in the estate. If your father had life insurance policies for instance, they would pass outside the estate unless the estate were the designated beneficiary. If the total value of the estate was less than #10,000, it may not be cost effective to proceed. In any event, you need to consult with an attorney before you do anything.
