My first step would be a letter in their mail slot. The letter should have your name and contact info, a description of your computer with the make and model, and an explanation that you've repeatedly tried to reach them during normal business hours. Ask for them to contact you and make arrangements to return/pickup your computer. You could also try reaching the owner at his/her home.. . My second step would be to recruit some help. If there's a business next door, maybe they'd be willing to call you when they see the repair shop open? You might have to tip them for it, but likely not much. Or if there's a residence next door, you could politely introduce yourself and see if they'd be willing to help. If the owner isn't keeping regular hours and you can't be there all day yourself it helps to know someone who can.. . My third step would be to talk to another repair shop. If the original business is in dire straits as you suggest then they'd probably be asking for money if your computer was fixed already. Another shop might be willing to claim the computer for you so that you can get it repaired at their store. If not, they might have more advice about how to get your computer back.. . My final step would be to contact the Better Business Bureau and/or the police. The BBB won't be much help if the shop closes it's doors permanently, but until it does the BBB is a valid option. The police likely won't help until you can prove some wrongdoing on the part of the shop. If the shop goes out of business though, then they've essentially stolen your property. The police should be able to help you with getting the computer back at that point. Pressing charges might be more trouble than it's worth though.. . Good Luck.
