English spelling is stupid! England is an island which is connected by sea to a lot of different countries. We also have been invaded numerous times. English was influenced by the Saxons, the Angles, the Jutes, the Celts, the Vikings, the Greeks, and the Romans. Hence there are a lot of inconsistencies. In English when you see a word you can't really tell how it is pronounced, unless you also learn how it is pronounced. In Spanish if you see a word you know from the written letters exactly how it is pronounced, even if you have never heard it before.. . Imo we should change the spellings so that it actually makes sense because it means that people learning the language have to spend a lot more time and energy coping with the inconsistencies when they could be learning other stuff. A lot probably give up because it so tough. We should make it easy for them to learn this great language. The more people who learn English the easier it is for British companies to do business, and the stronger the British economy becomes.. . Unfortunately nobody can be bothered to change the spellings. It's like conventional electron flow vs actual electron flow or how all the roads in Britain are really bendy and nobody can bothered to invest the time and money to make them straight even though everyone would benefit more in the long run.
