As I understand it, you can change your name for any reason. You should start at the social security administration. You pretty much can't do anything without that first. You do not need an attourney and it should be VERY inexpensive... maybe $50 here or there for processing fees.. . Explaining it to others is your deal. It might be a fun conversation starter/piece with the boys. If it's what you want, then do it! No one will care in a year.. . I remember in the 80's hearing about some guy that changed his name to "Coke Is It!"... seriously. So go for it!
