Just how much do you know about being a financial adviser" You need an intimate knowledge of a great number of financial products, Stocks, stock funds, Index funds etc. and how well each Company's stock or funds will do in both the short and long term. Bonds, municipal bonds, corporate bonds, -0- coupon bonds, T bonds, bond funds etc. and also the expectations of interest rates and payouts connected with these and other financial instruments in both the long and short term . You will need know which financial instruments would best suit your client's long and short term goals. Your clients will only continue to be your clients as long as you can make money for them. If you hook up with a bank or financial institution, you will not be an Independent Personal Financial Adviser, as your clients will become their clients and you will be advising their clients. You will only be able to sell that Financial Institution's products and your salary is generally commensurate with the amount of product you sell. Expect to work long hours meeting with clients, generally at their convenience often at night and week-ends. You can figure on 16-18 hour days. People in this business can make a lot of money if they know what they are doing, but are subject to burn out a lot sooner than a teacher would be.
