i have recently received an email about a job, and it said that i have to send a resume and a cover letter. what is a cover letter and how do i write it?.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Now you've got your interview! Even if there isn't a position available - that person may know of one somewhere else. OR positions turn over quickly - and you'll have made an ally in the department you want to work - so when the position does come up - they know just who to call!. . At the lunch/interview, the goal isn't to get a 'job' it's to get information, make a friend, and network. Interview them - ask questions like - how does your company handle xyz. I am very good at xyz, what kind of system do you have that would utilize that? ALWAYS ask, is there someone else I should talk to - in this company or somewhere else.. . Tell her you'll send her a copy of your resume - for her records, just in case. Send a thank you note for the meeting, right away with a copy of your resume. If she gives you a name of someone else - and you meet with them - send a note that says "I met with Mr. Brown - he was a great help. Thank you very much." Just to keep your name in front of her!. . This is part of a process that I was taught by a leading career management firm - and I got my dream job by doing this. I made enough calls to companies I might like to work at to have 'lunch' with 3 people per week. After lunch, I kept in touch every week or so and when a position came available (4 months later) they called me - not for an interview - but "we've got this position, would you be interested!'. . Good luck!
