• Phil Fine owes his decision to practice law to a sudden gust of fresh air. "I was a pre-med major and had left some specimens to dry on the window sill during my organic chemistry class final exam," recalls Phil. "A minute later a sudden wind whooshed past the window and blew all my specimens away. This was a timed, controlled assignment, so I failed the final. I decided then to seek an alternative career."

  Phil switched majors to political science and history and knew he had found his true calling. "I have been fascinated with politics all my life and I enjoy studying history because the past often foretells the future," he says. "I also have great empathy for people and decided to become a family attorney to make sure our established legal system gives everyone a square deal. When I tell my clients I will fight for them I mean it."

  Coming from a hard working family Phil appreciates what his clients go through to make ends meet. "Some of my bankruptcy clients come to me distraught because they are in debt," he says. "I know that sudden medical bills, unexpected unemployment and family disasters can hit people hard. Thank goodness we have a legal system that provides for people in these circumstances. Bankruptcy provides a safety net so they people don't lose their homes or cars and have the ability to get back on their feet again."

  As a family practice attorney for almost 40 years, Phil is gratified when multiple generations of the same family seek his advice and legal expertise. "I like it when my clients come in and we have a comfort level because of our long history together," he says. "This enables them to freely ask for help and for me to understand exactly what they need.   When Phil is not working hard for his clients he enjoys spending time with his wife Arlene, bicycling through Cleveland's scenic pathways, visiting his four children who live out-of-town, and playing with his beagle, Daisy.

There is inexpensive do-it-yourself software for both wills and advance directives (the proper name for living wills). The forms for an advance directive should be fine, but only do a form-based will if you aren't married, have no kids, and have simple assets and finances. Otherwise, it's well worth the money to hire an attorney and have it done right.

You may think it's easier to just begin writing without brainstorming, but sometimes (if not all the time), it's not. You really do have to think about it! And trust me! I really know. My computer wasn't working for a long time, so I wasn't able to begin to write my story as planned, which gave me plenty of time to think about it. After a while, I realized my story was no good. It made no sense, the plot was off, and I didn't know how I'd carry out my story. Overtime, I was able to twist it around into something a whole lot better. Right now I'm in the process of brainstorming, and it's doing a lot of good for me so far.. . I suggest, you stick with the idea in your head... Keep it there, for a long time. I'd say about a month or so. This may seem like a long time, but writing a novel takes a lot longer. Trust me, it'll work. Overtime, if you think it won't work, try and change it a little. If you finally find something you think you can stick to, begin brainstorm.. . Write the plot. How are you going to carry it out? What main events are you going to build up, leading to the end of the story? And also think about if you want to make it into a series.. . Next, create your characters. Don't name them right away, come up with their personalities. Think about their roles in the story. How are they going to contribute to the story? Once you've figured all of that out, THEN name them. It's alot easier to come up with their names based on their personailities.. . Hope I helped!
