Only 2 cases have ever gone to court and had a proper hearing, and the judgements were released last tuesday.. . The cases went to court accidentally, Lloyds settled with everyone else on the same day, but overlooked the paperwork for 2 cases, so didn't settle, and the cases ended up going to a hearing. As Lloyds settled with everyone else on the day, it shows that even they didn't think they would win!. . The first case was dismissed, because the claimant sent no evidence about his claim, why the charges were unfair, the amount he was claiming for etc, so this is understandable and was doomed to failure.. . The second case was the one that was won by Lloyds. The judge went against expert opinion and ruled in favour of the bank. The judge looked at the "wrong" evidence to make the ruling, ie the current terms and conditions of the account he found on the internet, rather than the T and C's at the time of the charges. The banks have cunningly changed the wording now, to get round the law, and even though the wording wasn't the same when the charges came about, the judge still ruled in the banks favour.. . Thankfully, it does not set a precedent and won't affect anyone elses case. It is still too risky for the banks to let cases go to court, as losing would be a lot more damaging for them than it would be to the public. So they are still settling out of court.. . I`ve successfully claimed back over ?700 from HSBC myself, and i`m currently persuing a second claim. I run a site to help people claim their charges back themselves, and as such have had experience of a number of other banks and building societies.. . Use the steps below, and the template letters on my site and you should have a good chance of getting a full refund of your charges.. . The full process and timescales for claiming back your charges is:. . 1) Write to the bank and ask them for a copy of your charges for the last 6 years, or alternatively a set of statements for the same period. You do this by making a "Subject Access Request" under the Data Protection Act, enclosing a cheque for ?10 made out to the bank. This by passes the banks normal charges for statements which is normal a large amount for 6 years worth. The bank have 40 days to send you the data.. . 2) Write to the bank asking them to refund your charges, giving them 14 days to reply, attaching a "Schedule of Charges" (a list of the charges you are claiming for).. . 3) Send the bank a "Letter before Action" giving the bank one last chance to refund your charges before you take court action. They have 14 days to reply.. . 4) File a claim online using the Money Claim Online web site run by the UK Court Service. The claim is served on the bank 5 days after its submitted. The bank has 14 days to acknowledge the claim. If they don't you can request a "Judgement by Default" and you win the case, and get your charges, statutory interest at 8%, and your court fees.

Why are different molecules in the earth stratosphere easily trapped on the surface of ice particles, where they can react, with consequences such as depletion of the ozone layer? This wide variety of intriguing questions have made ice one of the most frequently studied materials. However, until now, no definite answers to these and many other questions have been forthcoming since all of the attempts to gain information on the microscopic structure of a single crystal ice surface have failed. Very recently, even the powerful method of electron diffraction, routinely used in surface structure analysis, failed to provide any clear evidence on the structural arrangement of the topmost layer of ice. The group of scientists from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Free University in Amsterdam, and the University of Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris [Surface Science 381, 190 (1997)

whoever ends up closest wins a prize.. . After the mom-to-be guesses how the expectant dad answered a question, reveal his answer. You can have the guests take turns playing emcee, too.. . Here are some sample questions:. . How many diapers does a baby need each day?. . How many diapers do you plan to change each day?. . How many hours does a baby sleep each day?. . At what age does a baby start sleeping through the night?. . At what age does a child stop needing naps?. . At what age does a baby start eating solid food?. . Do you think your baby will be born with a lot of hair?. . How many kids do you want to have?. . Who'll be the firm parent, and who'll be the pushover?. . Baby's First Alphabet Book. . Ahead of time, print each letter of the alphabet on an individual sheet of paper. Once your guests are seated, pass out one sheet of lettered paper to each person along with a supply of markers, crayons, colored pencils, and stickers.. . Ask each guest to decorate her page with things that relate to her letter ? for example, whoever has letter "A" might draw pictures of apples, alligators, and ants. Your guests should also put their name on the page somewhere and can include a note to the soon-to-arrive baby if they like.. . After the shower, laminate the pages and bind them together, then give the collection to the guest of honor. It's her baby's first alphabet book! If you have more than 26 guests, you can also add pages with numbers or shapes, or you can have more than one person work on each page.. . Birthday Card Time Capsules. . Pass out blank greeting cards along with consecutively numbered envelopes to each of your guests.. . Instruct each guest to write a birthday card to the baby-to-be for whatever age is listed on her envelope. For instance, the person who receives envelope number 13 will write a birthday message for the baby's thirteenth birthday and might say something about what a big milestone it is to become a teenager. The cards will make special gifts for the baby throughout the years.. . Baby-to-be Scrapbook. . Create a special, personalized scrapbook that the expectant mom can use to show off all her future baby photos. Buy a variety of scrapbook pages and accessories (special paper, photo corners, stickers, stamps, cutely shaped hole punches, and so on).. . Have the shower guests each design a page or two, and the mom-to-be will have a great memento of her shower ? as well as a beautiful baby album she would never have had time to make on her own.. . Guest Graffiti. . Buy a baby bodysuit or a hooded bath towel in white or another light color, plus nontoxic fabric paint or markers. As each guest arrives, ask her to sign her name on the outfit or towel. Encourage guests to write personal messages or draw little pictures. The mom-to-be will take the "graffiti"-covered item home for her new baby.. . Toilet Paper Talk. . Pass a roll of toilet paper around the room and ask each person to tear off as much or as little as she likes. Once everyone has her piece, announce that for every square of paper a guest has taken, she has to
