However, you don't back up any of those skills with examples. If I'm the hiring manager, these words are empty to me without examples. If you think these are the top 3 skills they're looking for that align with your skills, then mention them in the first paragraph, but spend the rest of the letter providing dynamic examples of you having demonstrated those skills.. . Then you say you want to "highlight...qualities and credentials...most relevant to the position." If that's true, what are the three things you mentioned in the previous sentence? Are "skills in dealing with customers, ensuring client satisfaction, and [your] ability to be a team player" less relevant that what you're about to tell me?. . In your second paragraph you go on to list several things. It would be better if you describe how those things have given you the qualities they're looking for. For instance, "As a Public Relations major at UT, I have taken extensive coursework on how to interact with customers and other stakeholders. Part of my course of study required me to complete a personal communication effectiveness audit where I learned how to listen consultatively and hone my empathy skills. These skills are directly transferable to the Cast Member role at Sephora in the context of working with customers and listening to their needs." Of course I made all that up for illustrative purposes, but I hope it gives you something to go on.. . You need to do an overhaul like I spell out above for every point in your second paragraph. Some of those points you should not mention at all, like how does "attendance and participation in numerous [unnamed] conferences" make you better qualified to work at Sephora? What are you trying to communicate to the hiring manager by mentioning that? What qualities have you gained by doing that? Don't make a hiring manager jump through any mental hoops or force him/her to connect any dots--you should be connecting all of the dots for him/her by spelling everything out: "Through events such as Relay for Life, where I organized a fundraising drive through my membership in the UT chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, I learned how to succeed in busy work environment that requires a high level of coordination between teammates. This experience positions me well to take on the challenge at Sephora." I know, I know, that's not what you intended to communicate content-wise, but it's just for illustration.
