My oldest daughter's biological father died while I was pregnant with her. She collects his social security survivor's benefits. I since have been married and have 2 more children. When she was born it was a confusing time and I gave her both my maiden name and her father's last name. The nurse at the hospital said I could change it when I want. Apparently not. I want her to have my husband's last name like the rest of the family. We live in Missouri if that makes a difference. I hear we have to get an attorney and go to court to get an order to have her name on her birth certificate changed. I would really appreciate anyone's help in this, she is going to start school in the next couple years and I would like to fix it before then. Thank You.. Well I would have her keep it, but the last thing I heard the man say was he did'nt want anything to do with me or the baby after he beat me while pregnant with her. She never met him. I will tell her when it is the right time and yes I will have to leave alot of bad stuff out. In the meantime I think she should have the same name as the rest of the family since my husband is really her Dad since she was 2 months old..
