Its a good question, especially considering that we have socialized other services. Police and fire, for example.

I'm filling out applications for jobs. But I don't go by my birth name, which is Kelly, I've always gone by Aria. Seems pretty logical to put my birth name down on the application but then it always seems to complicate things later. For instance, I'll get a callback and they'll call me Kelly but then I just feel like it's unprofessional to correct them over the phone or in an interview to call me Aria, especially since I haven't yet gotten the job. I'm unsure as to how to handle this..should I write my birth name and then in perenthesis (Aria)...seems just as unprofessional as me telling them in an interview. With prior expierence with this problem..I didn't tell my employer until I was hired that I went by Aria and not Kelly and it was constant confusion for months because they would forget. Thanks for you're help..

My father was in dispute with his Royal British Legion, they apologised to him in letter form, but there is no signature. I think he should send it back and ask for a signature. Is it poor ettiquette or is the letter not official with no signature.. Helen, I must add that it was typed 'secretary, but no signature, it has come to light that the secretary knows nothing about letter being sent. Opening up a can of worms I think!!.
