  • Rick and I met as undergraduates at UNC-Chapel Hill (Go Heels!), married in 1977 and graduated from Campbell Law School in 1981.? From 1981 through 1986 we practiced together in my hometown of Durham, NC and often assisted my dad, Lester W. Owen, also an attorney, with various cases prior to his retirement.

Eventually we decided that our “junior partners” needed me more at home than I needed to be at the office!? We are incredibly thankful for our daughter, Jillian, and our sons, Joshua and his wife, Andrea, David and Chadwick.? In 1990 we moved to the mountains, and Jackson County has been a wonderful place to raise our family.? Now that we are “empty nesters,” I am back at the office assisting Rick with his cases and filling the role of office manager.? Through the years I maintained my law license by attending the required continuing legal education classes.

Although it has its flaws, the American legal system, founded upon Judeo-Christian principles, enables us to enjoy the blessings of life and liberty in a remarkable fashion, and it is a privilege to be involved in the pursuit of justice.

Health Care is simple. Health insurance comes in various shapes and sizes, based on how much you can afford each month.. You have many different companies to choose from, who will offer their basic package, which can be 'upgraded' to include several different areas, based on your needs.. . Me, for example, have a basic package (sickness, hospitalization, medication, things out of my hands) and have, for lack of a better word, 'expansion packs' for my glasses and contacts, psychotherapy (in case I go nuts) and extensive dental expenses (in case all my teeth get knocked out by someone).. . My 4 year old son is on my insurance, so I pay a standard amount every month and don't have to worry about anything.. Normally you don't even see the paperwork. Your local hospital knows your records, so send their bill to your insurance company automatically.. . Sometimes (like in case of my glasses and contacts) they only pay up to a certain amount, the rest you have to pay for yourself, but I've hardly ever had to have to pay for anything myself.. . Well, in a sense I do pay for it.

Contractor Agreement for work done..?

Does he have periods of competency? If so, it may be possible. If not, it is not possible. The law requires that he be competent at the time of execution. Many people have good days and bad days. Legally speaking, he may not be sufficiently competent to sign a will on one day, but legally competent on the next. Of course, the real key question is what is at stake and how does the family feel about the changes in the will. If the family supports the new will, then your not going to have a legal battle. If they do not support the new will, you would need an opinion of a professional right before he signs the will testifying he is competent. In addition, you will need to videotape him during the entire process. You are really walking a fine line in this situation which can lead to a costly legal battle.
