My 14 year old son is wanting to have his last name changed from his fathers to my maiden name. Question is...can we do this without his father? I've tried to understand the laws. His father does pay a little child support through ga child support recovery, BUT has not seen or spoken to my son in 3 years now. Before that was once every 6 months or so for maybe 10 minutes. I was looking into the whole abandonment thing which is how we can do without him, but I'm not clear in that since the state makes him pay support. From what I read, ether no support for 5 years OR not communicating for over 1 year. He also wants to drop his first name, same as his dads and just have his now middle name and my last name. Advice? His father is no good ad my son wants no part of him or his name.. Oh we were never married, so no divorce. Also, his father has SIX other illegitimate children that we know of.. Also, his fathers whereabouts are unknown. I don't have a phone number, address or even what kin of car he drives or where he works..

Go to the social security office and get your name changed. It will be much easier than to use the old name and have to change it later.

Hi, aimee's friend Sinead here....Aimee said youguys might be able to help me out with a wee problem.... . I have a 2 year old son and am getting married next month. The man I am marrying is not my son's father, although my son called him daddy and we are hoping that my husband to be will be able to adopt my son.. . My son has my maiden name as a surname, O'Neill. When I get married I will be taking my husband's surname - Jackson.. . My question is, do we also change my son's name? We are kinda thinkign that we should. We are planning to have children in the future and by not changing his name he'd be the only O'Neill in our family.... . The biggest problem is my son's name is Michael (although we all call him Mikey)...so his name would end up being Michael Jackson! I wonder would he get teased if that was his name?. . 1)Normally I planned to attend gallaudet.... 2) then I decide to go there for only two years and other two years is that I will be going to NYU, Juilliard or whatever.. 3) NOW I want to be real estate and go New York Real Estate Institute. 4) I just realized it takes like 10 years to be official real estate and sell expensive luxury apartments in NYC.... .
