I believe at 25 and as a grad student you are responsible and intelligent enough to be able to make a decision like this. The sooner you do it the more time people have to get used to the name. I dont think you need to explain your reasons to everyone. Consult your parents and/or siblings but It's your decision. Of course there will be people who think you are weird but don't heed them because at the end of the day, it's your name (whichever it is) on that pay cheque. I would suggest a legal change then you are covered against anything. Although its a lot more paperwork, wouldn't it be worth it for you to enjoy being called a name you love and enjoy the rest of your life.. . I am 45 and will be changing my name later this year to yes, Cleo. Although many people will be confused or concerned about my "identity crisis," it doesn't matter to me because it's only I whom makes me happy. You are young and will have plenty of time for people to get used to using your new name. Go for it and all the best. C

It is not that simple. I have no idea why your school wants an affidavit unless you attended school in Canada and want to be enrolled in the grade you would be entering if you had attended school last year (grade 11 instead of 10 even though you left after 9). If this is the case, then you will need a letter from the school you attended in Canada stating what courses you took and the grades obtained, basically a transcript. Your school may also want this notarized. In addition, they may want a notarized statement from your family as to where you were and what you did. If you have travel visas, keep them handy as they may also want to see these. Are your guardians at this end of the line aware of what is happening? They should be involved.

Is there any other solution to bringing down costs of health insurance OTHER than offering a public plan?

Proposal Letter?

Something else to think about...if you think you would get married one day...do you plan to take your husbands last name? If so, most women drop their middle name - use their maiden name as the middle name and take the husbands last name. So, if you think you would do that when you get married....it may not be worth the expense of changing your name.

No one hires me. Why?
