  • A civil litigator with more than 10 years of experience, Helen Blake represents business entities, non-profit organizations and major insurance carriers against significant claims, such as professional liability, products liability, personal injury, wrongful death and negligence.

Helen devotes a large part of her practice to the defense of medical malpractice and health care-related claims. She has successfully defended health care systems, institutions and practitioners in complex, multi-million- dollar lawsuits. In addition, she has served as lead counsel for a major South Florida medical school in both litigation and regulatory proceedings.

Helen represents clients from pre-suit screening through trial to post-trial appeals, when necessary. She works closely with clients, as well as insurance carriers, to resolve disputes in a manner which reduces liability and exposure. Clients also benefit from her far-reaching knowledge of medical specialties and health care regulations.

Helen’s litigation background provides her with additional insights when counseling clients on the multitude of both state and federal laws, particularly those regulating the health care industry. She assists with the implementation of risk management strategies and techniques as well as maintaining compliance programs associated with security, privacy and other regulations associated with the Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA), Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Both regional and national media outlets frequently call upon Helen for commentary and legal analysis of today’s most pressing health care issues.

I am European and English is not my native language. This year I'll be traveling to the USA to film some hotel reviews. On the websites of these hotels they instruct me to write a letter asking for media access.. . Can anyone tell me if the following is going to work, and if not, help me to improve the letter?.

If a builder's contract says the following:. . "Builder will make changes to the Plans and Specifications after Owner's written authorization to Builder for such changes..". . does this mean that ANY changes to the contract, including cost overruns, has to be approved by me? For example, if a septic system was budgeted for $9,000 but actually cost $19,000, would it be required for me to give signed consent for this overrun? Because my builder spent $36,000 in overruns without my knowledge or signed consent. Do I have a legal leg to stand on here? Thanks for your help..

You are going to have fun. Don't stress. Buy what you need when you get there, except for the essentials that I wrote about.
