    You can definitely be a real estate broker and still go to school at the same time. I know a full-time pharmacist who has a real estate license and acts as a real estate agent on the side. I'm pretty sure there are different types of real estate broker jobs - ones like with new constructions where you have to be on the job certain hours (which sounds like is not for you) and others where you set your own hours. You should ask your real estate school about your options in these regards prior to signing up for the school.. . The only ways I can think of of tying the 2 degrees together are a) becoming a builder so you can use your degree to say stamp the structural plans or something like that and then your real estate license to sell those homes. b) make contacts through your civil engineer jobs of people you can sell the homes to. Being a civil engineer can be time consuming though so you might not want to do both at the same time (or prioritize finding a CE job that isn't so time consuming like a government job or a company that will let you work part time).. . If you sell a lot, you can actually make a lot more money as a real estate broker than a civil engineer, especially right out of college. Of course the market is really bad right now so unless you have good connections (which sounds like you may) you may end up making crap too as a real estate broker. In my state, the civil engineering market is down as well and new grads are having a hard time finding jobs here. I think though that overall, civil engineers are still less hit than other majors. You probably know more about the new CE grad market than I do though so I'd trust your own judgment when it comes to how easy it is to find a CE job once you graduate.

    Your marriage license won't have your new name on it...it just shows you got married!. To change your name on the other things, just call the places who issued those ID's, and they can send you the forms. (Call the bank, the social security administration in the phone book, etc.) DOn't forget to change on your credit cards, library card, movie rental place, those kinds of things too. It's as simple as filling out a little card and just writing your new name. You may need to show them a copy of your marriage license so get some copies made.

    Lots of misconceptions including that it's easy money, the market only goes up, you can't lose, you can buy lots of houses for pennies on the dollar, etc. This is one of the most scam-filled areas of all to try to make a living in.. . When you want to start, makes sense to decide WHAT you want to do in RE.. . Do you want to be a landlord? Single homes or units in something larger?. Do you want to flip houses?. Do you want to be a developer?. Do you want to do COMMERCIAL RE instead of residential?. . ALL of that takes a lot of know-how, skills, and money no matter what liars claim about being able to do it for free.. . You can invest more simply by reviewing info and purchasing REITs on the stock market--can get a decent return IF you do your homework which includes understanding how the market works.. . You could, if you have a LOT of money, invest in a development company.. . You could, if you have skills and some friends with skills AND MONEY, form a small business and do something in RE.. . You've got lots of of options, but it always starts with homework AND money you will NOT need for a good long-time AND a back up plan on how to get as much as you're putting in based on an educated summary of costs in addition. In other words, people who just start out probably underestimate costs by half. Even experienced people get caught with expenses at times, but novices seem to just believe the BS others have told them about "pennies on the dollar" buys.. . Read how a tax lien REALLY works--nothing like the infomercials claim.. Read about REAL foreclosure procedures.. Learn what "as is" REALLY means.. Find out what requires permits, how zoning works, how to speak "contractor time" and more.. Fail to do that and you are in serious trouble. It's not 2005 anymore when a chimp could walk in and lay down money and walk away with big bucks.
