While Attorney General, Attorney Heed successfully proposed and pursued initiatives to fight growing problems of domestic violence, identity theft, child pornography, and sexually violent predation in the State of New Hampshire. Attorney Heed also took on the major oil companies by spearheading litigation to challenge MTBE use as a gasoline additive within the State.

Attorney Heed grew up in the Amish County of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and came to New Hampshire when he attended Dartmouth College, where he earned his AB Degree in 1972. After going on to graduate from Cornell Law School, Attorney Heed returned to New Hampshire and began his legal career in 1975 as a homicide prosecutor with the State’s Attorney General’s Office. His primary responsibility was to supervise the investigation and prosecute murder cases arising throughout the State of New Hampshire. He also handled and argued numerous appeals before the New Hampshire Supreme Court and Federal Courts. Attorney Heed’s private practice encompassed a broad range of trial work, particularly personal injury litigation, aviation law, and criminal defense. In the Fall of 2000, attorney Heed successfully ran for Cheshire County Attorney, returning to prosecution and public service. Me and another guy were arguing over a woman. He made death threats to me and I made violent threats back over the phone. He called the police and filed a complaint. He received a letter from the county prosecutor asking if he would like to press charges against me for terroristic threats. He wants me to dump her or he's going to press charges. What kind of trouble can I get in if he presses charges?.
