Hi there all,. . I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with something like I'm about to ask. I'm weighing hard on legally changing my first name. The process looks pretty straight forward for the state I live in, but my question is about my other documents. My passport, birth and marriage certificates as well as my son's birth certificate all would have my old name on them. Is there any way to change these to have my new name on them??(I know passport won't be a problem really if I have the court documents) Or is it more along the lines of your old things stay the same and you just show the court issued change to make it known? Thankyou!.

I believe the word you're looking for is "mementos". The executor, by definition, has no power until the will is put into probate, so "changing the locks" was probably illegal, unless there was a power of attorney that you are unaware of.. . If there is no written will then you're out of luck. Otherwise, if there is a written will, the executor is required by law to carry out the EXACT instructions of the testator, to the extent allowed by law and circumstances. Get a copy of the will and show it to your own attorney for more specific instructions on what you can do.

It is against the law for any employer to disclose any information about past employees that is negative. Typically, employment verification questions are limited to did you work for the company during the dates you provided them? and would you re-hire this person? Any other type of questions about you or your personality is considered deffamation of caracter and now a prejudice and bias view of someone else, possibly preventing you from obtaining employment. This is a big violation of your Civil Rights.. If you are that worried as to what they will disclose, If there is a manager or supervisor that you didn't burn, ask them to write you a letter of recommendation and get as many of them as possibe. If that is not an option, request a complete copy of your personnel file, in writing or go on line to the labor commissioner's office and print out a request form to get a copy of your employee records and also print out the "Termination Request" and let the labor commissioner's office fight any descrepencies with your previous employers.. This way, the requests will be sent from the labor commissioners office to your previous employers and then to you personally. If there are any descrepencies, you will have the power of the labor commissioners office to fight your battles for you and not have to worry about previous employers giving false information for employment verification. Do not let any employer past or present intimidate you or avenge their differences by giving you a false recommendation for a prospective employment offer. I live in a right to work state and have won 6 out of 7 disputes with previous employers that were trying to screw me and deny me my benefits for unemployment. Research your local employment laws and utilize the assistance of the labor commissioner's office, it is their job to assist those in need of help.
