I am writing to apply for the possibility of gaining some voluntary, unpaid work experience at the BBC Television Centre in London. The dates I would be available for work are between 9th - 13th of July 2012. I am currently studying at ************ ********** ******* in ******** (however, I can arrange accommodation for myself in London for that week), in Year 9. As of those dates next year, I will be 14 and at the end of Year 10. The opportunity for work there would act as my compulsory placement for that week, which is a part of my Key Stage 3 educational curriculum. I have gained some experience previously with the BBC, when I appeared on the Get 100 game show at the age of 10, which I enjoyed thoroughly.. . I am particularly interested in working in the newsroom and in the news broadcast studio at the Television Centre, as a career in broadcast journalism is something I am considering for the future. I very much enjoy English at school and writing in general, whether it be factual or creative. My work has previously been published in various Young Writers anthologies, and I have won awards in my local area for poetry and other forms of writing. At school I very much enjoy learning, and for GCSE I have chosen to take the English Baccalaureate (English, Maths, ICT and Core Physical Education) alongside my extra options of Triple Science, History, French and Music. I have also chosen to take a full GCSE course in Religious Education, which involves some self-study at home. I am on track to receiving A-A* for GCSE in all of my subjects, as my current results show I am receiving some of the highest grades for my year group. After my mandatory education has ended in two years time, I hope to go on to study at ****** College and then hopefully into a good university.. . I am also in possession of various useful skills. For example, I have a Pica Training touch-typing proficiency, and can touch-type at a speed of 120 keystrokes per minute (my speed has improved since taking the final test for the qualification). Furthermore, I have attended peer support training run by Childline, which enabled me to develop skills such as communication, team building, problem solving and supporting others. Recently, I also attended the Royal Institution 2011 Mathematics Masterclasses at the University of ******, which allowed me to work with other like-minded people to solve problems and increase my teamwork skills.

Clinical research sounds like an exciting volunteer opportunity. It is best to go forward by telling the truth. Say you were in a position that had questionable employment practices and that you resigned almost immediately. Have other references available to support your application. Be open and honest about wanting the placement to gain experience and references for future work. They know how competitive things are, and if you demonstrate merit and good work ethic, they will almost certainly try you out, especially since it is a volunteer job.
