Rosalind Franklin and DNA. ?Science and everyday life can not and should not be separated? said Rosalind Franklin. She was right because science has a major role in our life which is important to survive. She gave us a great insight to know about our present and future life while putting her own life at risk. Franklin did a great research which led to our understanding of the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA. It is the hereditary material in humans and every living organism which is pretty compulsory. DNA gives us knowledge about the past, present, and future life of every living organism. Gene that is made of DNA is important to understand the genetic characteristic of human being or any other living organism. These genes are responsible for a person to get different color of eyes, complexion, height, body size, intelligence, and soon. These genes can also help us to understand if an inborn child is going to receive any disease or disorder from their parents with the help of genome project. If scientist knows that inborn child is not going to be a healthy child and may receive a disorder or disease from parents, then they can help parents to make right decision about their future child. Because of this great lady today scientist have accomplished a lot and raised many steps for human growth. The first time I became interested to knowing about this scientist when I saw? The Secret of 51?, a movie about Franklin and her work in the discovery of DNA. The first time I watched this movie in my biology class which was pretty interesting to know about this lady and her work. My curiosity about this great lady made me to explore her life and role in DNA.. History is filled with scientists who are man and only few are woman. Nevertheless, women have great contribution to science, which is incredible. This world is also filled with competition and everyone wants to achieve higher prestigious in life. No matter if person choose wrong way or take other person?s credit. This is what happened with Rosalind Franklin who gave up her life to solve a mystery but could not achieve what others achieved with her work. Rosalind Franklin, a genius scientist was born on 25, July 1920 in London. Her father was Ellis Franklin, an Anglo- Jewish who was the partner of keyser?s bank. In 1931, Franklin educated from St. Paul?s Girl?s School and entered in Cambridge University after graduating. At Cambridge University, she received her BA and majored in physical chemistry. Her father wanted her to choose something traditional that is known as girl?s work but she always worshipped science. . At the physical chemistry laboratory, she did research on the kinetic of polymerization reaction. In1949, with the help of his friend Charles coulson, a theoretical scientist, she started to look into X- ray diffraction of large biological molecule. In 1950, after awarding for three ? year turner, John T. Randall asked Franklin to investigate DNA. She became an expert in X-ray crystallography, an art of understanding the biologically structure of molecule with the help of X-rays. In 1951, Rosalind joined Maurice Wilkins?s lab to study the DNA structure. (.0). Franklin was one of those hard workers who do their work and don?t show until achieving the whole goal. Wilkins and Franklin both was expert in X-ray diffraction. They used X- ray diffraction method to study DNA, a secret of life. Franklin and Wilkins were getting close to the mystery of life. On the other hand, two other scientist James Watson and Francis crick were struggling to solve this mysterious puzzle in Cavendish laboratory at Cambridge. Nevertheless, they both were not expert in X- ray diffraction and neither have they had the understanding of chemical bonding. In 1951, they guessed the structure of stereo chemical configurations of polynucleotide chains and made molecular model of DNA. Nevertheless, their first effort went futile and was unsatisfactory for them. The worst part of this overall research was that Wilkins and Rosalind were very open about their research. In 1953, Watson saw Franklin?s X- ray diffraction photo and with the help of Wilkin read her unpublished research summary. They never revealed to Franklin that they have read her research about DNA and never gave her credit for her work. (ROSLAIND PAPER). However, Franklin was few steps ahead from Watson and crick in this DNA research race. Nevertheless, Franklin had to leave this race because of her health problems. When she had an operation doctor told her that she has two tumors in her abdomen. In 1956, she diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She continued working even when she was ill
