• Mr. Hemric has had a lifelong interest in the legal field. As happened to many young people, his interest was piqued by watching a television series called "The Defenders" starring E. G. Marshall. Clay found a filing cabinet in the family attic when he was about eleven or twelve years old and it was an investigation that Clay's father had conducted to defend Clay's uncle from two charges of vehicular homicide. In later years he would come to see, again and again, and appreciate fully how dedicated Clay Hemric, Sr. was to investigation of cases. The file contained ten or fifteen interviews conducted roughly sixty miles away from the family home in Burlington, North Carolina. Each of those interviews was reduced to writing, typewritten and signed by the witness in front of a notary public. The whole file took probably thirty hours to read. By the time Clay had finished reading the file and seeing the victorious result that his own father had achieved for his uncle, he was hooked on law and what thorough preparation in a case could achieve. It was probably somewhat inappropriate for him to read a private file about a family member, but it served as a deciding point for his ultimate career.

  While he was a youth, Clay received his Eagle Scout Award in 1959 and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He played varsity tennis for Wake Forest University in the late 60's under one of the greatest tennis coaches in the country, Jim Leighton. He was elected President of the Wake Forest University College Union. Clay was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Honorary Leadership Fraternity.

  After finishing several years of law school, Mr. Hemric was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in November 1969. He served approximately four years in the Marine Corps reserve, finishing up as a First Lieutenant. He finished in the top ten percent of his Marine Officer's Basic School and was offered a regular commission in the Marine Corps. However, he chose to return to law school.

  His accomplishments in the legal field led to his being recognized by Business North Carolina in 2006 as a member of Legal Elite. He has been chosen by Super Lawyers Magazine to be a member of Super Lawyers, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. After twenty years in the personal injury litigation field, Clay was chosen to be the head of the Litigation Section of the North Carolina Bar Association and he served in 1990 and 1991.?He has been a backpacker since 1985 in connection with his twenty-year tenure as a Scoutmaster. He enjoyed the assistance of the seven best assistants any Scoutmaster could ever have, Wade Harrison, Bill Charlton, Sean Brookins, Rob Robinson, Joe Libera, John McCravey and Herb Kussman. Together, they assisted fifty young men to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

  He is an avid bicyclist and a former marathon runner and triathlete. He currently divides his time between Alamance County and a home that he and is wife own in the historic section of Charleston, South Carolina.?Clay learned Spanish through two years at the Alamance Community College beginning his study in the year 2000 and continuing with a tutor. He has helped to translate the book Women and the Law. He submitted his application for and passed the examination in 1994 to become Board Certified as a Specialist in Criminal Law pursuant to the standards of the North Carolina State Bar. For forty-two years, he has considered law to be a calling and a profession rather than a business.

• The Hemric Firm was established in 1948 by H. Clay Hemric who was reared in Yadkin County, North Carolina, educated at Mars Hill College and Wake Forest College School of Law. Mr. Hemric served as a claims adjuster for eight years with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and because of that career experience, he was always able to understand what motivates claims adjusters for insurance companies. Over the next 50 years, he managed to train other members of his law firm in his techniques of obtaining the most satisfactory settlements for personal injury claims without undue need for litigation. However, he was consistently considered one of the best trial lawyers in Alamance County, and in fact was one of the founders of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers in the early 1960's.

  He concentrated his practice in personal injury and wrongful death. His career as an attorney lasted from 1938 through 1997, or 60 years in which he was fully active until the time of his death on February 9, 1997. His law practice in Burlington lasted 50 years, and he is still recalled fondly by hundreds of clients, friends and acquaintances.

  The law firm has been known by several names since 1973. It became Hemric & Hemric, P.A. in 1973 and later changed to Hemric, Hemric & Elder until approximately 1986. At that time, the firm became Hemric, Hemric & Hemric, P.A. consisting of H. Clay Hemric, H. Clay Hemric, Jr., and Nancy G. Hemric, since retired. Those three attorneys tried cases together for eight years through 1993.

  Ricky W. Champion joined the law firm on January 1, 1996, after serving as Chief Assistant District Attorney in Alamance County for many years, where he specialized in prosecuting sex crimes.

My boyfriend and I have been discussing marriage for the last few months (been dating for almost 2 yrs). The other day he let me know in a subtle way that our engagement is approaching. :) We are avoiding anything after August due to the fact that my job picks up heavily during that time...AND the wedding colors I want would only look appropriate for mid summer.
