I learned about 10 yearsa ago when I was 24 that the name I have used all my life and which is on my state id, passport, etc, is not exactly the same as the name on my Social Security card. Essentially my social security card has my known middle name as my first name, and the first name I have gone by all my life as my middle name. Apparently my birth certificate name matches my SS card however my state ID and passport have my first and middle names reversed. My parents tell me that they named me one way when I was born and then just decided to start naming me another way (switch my middle and first name) without completing anything formal so I never knew. All my documents in my life has my first and middle names reversed from what is on my SS card. When I went into a SSA recently, they would not let me access my SSA credits because my name on the SS# didnt match my state ID/Passport. The last name is correct, but my first and middle names are switched. They were not helpful. D. . Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this, I havnt had problems with employers (yet) but I am worried that I will and I would like to have access to my SSA credits. Can a lawyer help me in resolving this? What kind of one? Can I do it myself? Do I have to legally change my state ID name/paassport name to my SSA name and then switched everything back? or can I get SSA to change it without having to do that? I would rather keep the name everybody knows me by.

You don't need a trust, you need a WILL. A revocable trust has 2 purposes: 1) to avoid probate and 2) to have a way to handle your assets if you become incapcitated. You are looking for a way to pass on your assets, that's a WILL.. . You need to see a lawyer. He/she will draw up a will that leaves your assets in trust (irrevocable, not revocable) to your beneficiaries, then leave the rest to whoever you want after they die. You must have an awful lot of money if you don't want to leave it outright eventually but are planning to leave them only the income.. . This is NOT something you can easily do yourself. Your questions show that you don't understand enough to do it yourself. See a lawyer so it's done right. A will (or trust) says what it says, not what you THINK it says.
