I was married for 15 years and when we got divorced I kept my married name for a number of reasons. I wanted to have continuity with my children and thought it would be less confusing if I kept my married name. Also I could not be bothered to go through the trouble of changing banking details, ID, passport, etc. I also thought I would keep forgetting when I signed my name! But the biggest reason was that my maiden name was one which people always spelt wrong and I used to get fed up with it. There is no way anyone could ever spell my married name wrong! I was lucky because my ex husband and I remained very good friends so I have no bitterness or anger to cope with and no bad feelings towards retaining his name.

I left my student accommodation a couple months back and soon after signing off my estate agents business apparently went belly up and disappeared with our deposit for the house. A couple months later my house mate bumps into his ex-colleague, who denied even knowing us and long story short he admitted to knowing us after police were brought into the situation. The very next day our estate agent calls us (he says these two events are unrelated) saying he will pay the money back and after a long argument he is now saying we should just take it to the courts so I'm wondering what will come of it if we do, will he be made to pay?
