You should get an attorney to write a RLT for less than $1,000. That should supersede any will. If you have enough money to justify the trust, it is worth the cost.

a marriage certificate says that you ARE married.. . Take the marriage certificate to the social security office, DMV (bring your birth certificate too, just in case), to banks etc to change your name. You don't have to wait for your new SS card to change your license. Some banks/utilities/other accounts will require you to go in person to change your name, some will require you to mail/fax a copy of the marriage certificate, and some will just take your word for it over the phone.

My dad died and my step mother claims she doesn't have enough money to cover all of his final expense. He was life-flighted twice-- to two different hospitals. There are lots of doctors - lab fees - operating room fees - ambulance charges - home services - funeral home expenses - headstone etc. which she claims to have to pay for. We heard at the funeral that someone anonymously donated the money to cover the outstanding balance not covered by his life insurance. Now she claims that did not happen. She will not show me any bills. I know he had Medicare and a supplement policy that should pay a lot of the claims. She has a history of being dishonest and greedy. . Some friends that Dad and I shared through an activity in which the rest of the family did not participate are holding a fundraiser. I do not think it would be right to just hand her the money when she is not being open and honest about how it is to be spent. The problem is that if I say anything about how the money is being spent it will cause a lot of fighting in the rest of the family. These people thrive on screaming and accusations. . In order to keep the drama at bay and keep my step mother accountable for using the money for the purposes it was donated I would like to find a company that could be named trustee of the funds. That way the check can be made out to the company and we could say that someone donated their services to take the burden off of the family and let them focus on grieving and getting their lives back in order. I have searched for a solution online but am not finding what I am looking for. Any idea?.
