• Jackie, a Montana Attorney, was born and raised in Lewistown, Montana. In 1995, she received her Bachelor of Science degree with high honors and a double major in psychology and sociology from Montana State University-Billings. In 1999, she received her law degree from McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific in Sacramento, California. Jackie was licensed and began practicing law in California until returning home to Montana in 2004. She has been practicing law in Billings, Montana since 2004 and was licensed in Wyoming in 2005.

  The Edwards Law Firm has roots firmly planted in Billings, Montana. The roots are nearly a third of a century deep. The firm's practice area has become the entire length and depth of the state known as "The Big Sky Country" and "The Last Best Place" -Montana!

  A. Clifford Edwards is a proud, third-generation Montanan. His grandpa, A. C. Edwards, settled in the great Judith Basin region of Central Montana in the 1890's-in time to host, in his hotel, a young artist (who was also still a working cowboy) named Charlie Russell! The Edwards family maintains a deep presence in Central Montana today. Clifford Edwards operates a Black Angus Cattle Ranch that runs over 2,000 head of cattle on some 125 sections of land. His cousin, Dwight Barber, manages the Ranch and its score of employees.

  Mr. Edwards came to Billings in 1973 as a law school intern from the University of Montana, for a summer job with the then prominent firm of Sandhall, Moses, Cavan &Kampfe. The exciting trial practice, civil and criminal, was a powerful introduction to law and Billings. Mr. Edwards was more than eager to accept the firm's offer of a job when "attorney-at-law" became official in June of 1974!

  Billings was then a fast-growing city with two important attributes: first, Billings had become the hub of commerce in not just Montana, but in a huge geographical area including northern Wyoming and the western Dakotas. Secondly, Billings is a city blessed with natural surroundings of impressive expanse and beauty: Billings is nestled under imposing 500-ft. sandstone "rimrocks" to the north, flanked by the Yellowstone River on the east and south, all framed by the imposing beartooth-Absaroka Mountains rising to the sky from the southwest.

  Today, Billings is entrenched as a nationally recognized "regional hub" that is a center of Courts and legal practice; a distinguished medial community; financial and commercial enterprise for the vast region; and the air travel hub from the Minneapolis-St. Paul to Denver to Salt Lake City to Seattle.

  Mr. Edwards trained, early on, under John J. Cavan, Jr. Mr. Cavan (now retired to the golf course at age 82!) was a distinguished plaintiffs' lawyer in the true transitional days of tort-from "lack of privity" defenses of manufacturers to the 1973 introduction of strict liability into the common law of Montana! Mr. Cavan gave Mr. Edwards the very best kind of Courtroom experience: he sent Mr. Edwards to Court everyday! The Court appearances ran from criminal appointments in the U.S. Federal Court to City Police Court to J.P. Court to he District Courts for Montana. Invaluable trial experiences mounted up in those early three years thanks to Mr. Cavan, to whom Mr. Edwards remain indebted.

  The next mentor was Richard W. Anderson; since 1991 that has been U.S. Magistrate Judge R. W. Anderson in Billings. Judge Anderson was a uniquely skilled trial lawyer with a gift for cross-examination seldom seen. He continued Mr. Edwards's Courtroom education with thousands of depositions and frequent trials. Again, his inspiration and example are treasured by Mr. Edwards.

  In late 1979, a recent clerk to the U.S. Federal District Judge James F. Battin of Billings, Donald W. Molloy, joined Anderson and Edwards. The new firm, Anderson, Edwards & Molloy, concentrated its practice on tort, for the Plaintiff's side. In the 1980's that firm accomplished much, both for the firm's clients and the professional accomplishments of the partners.

  During the 1990s the U.S. Federal Bench called Mr. Molloy; he now sits in chamber s at the Federal Building in Missoula-as Chief U.S. Federal Judge for the entire District of Montana!

  Some have inquired of Mr. Edwards when he will follow his former partners to the Bench: Mr. Edwards has a stock reply, "Never-I'm neither fair nor impartial...I'm an advocate in the Courtrooms I frequent!"

  The Edwards Law Firm has now staked its claim as perhaps one of the most active and accomplished trial advocacy centers in Montana.

  The firm's members are active in many professional societies and activities in the community. Here are some examples:

  Mr. Edwards is a graduate of Carroll College in Helena, Montana, and the University of Montana School of Law. He currently sits on the Carroll College Board of Trustees and is a director of Farmer State Bank in Denton, Montana, and First Interstate Bank West in Billings. Mr. Edwards is a longtime faculty member of the University of Montana School of Law Advanced Advocacy course and is an appointee to the Montana Supreme Court Commission of the Rules of Evidence.

  Mr. Edwards was the 1996 recipient of the Trial Lawyer of the Year award of the Montana Trial Lawyers Association and has been listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" since 1987. He is a charter member of the Montana Chapter of the American Board of Civil Trial Advocates. He belongs to the Yellowstone County Bar Association, The State Bar of Montana, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (sustaining member, charter member, The President's Club), the American College of Trial Lawyers, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.

  Mr. Frickle is a native of Hardin, Montana and a graduate of Eastern Montana College and the University of Montana School of Law. He was a law clerk for the Honorable Russell K. Fillner, State District Court Judge, and belongs to the Yellowstone County Bar Association, the State Bar of Montana, the Montana Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

  Mr. Edwards has recently purchased two Fixed Based Operation (FBO) businesses, one in Billings and one in Kalispell-Whitefish. These two operations provide full private aircraft service, from charter (piston-prop to turbo prop to jet aircraft) services to repair to fueling. The new business is known as Edwards Jet Center of Montana and operates some thirty-five planes and employs one hundred Montanans.

  The roots in Montana run deep and wide for the members of the Edwards Law Firm.
