Call the county clerk. In my county in California it is $320, plus the cost of a legal notice to run in the newspaper for four weeks.

Although I have never written a cover letter for student council, I assume it is like a cover letter for any job application. Here is what you should do:. . 1) Use proper business letter format.. 2) Be formal: you are writing to your respected authority figures, not your buddies. Don't use slang or text abbreviations. Proofread your work so that it is free from errors. . 3) Address the letter to your teacher(s) by name, not "to whom it may concern.". 4) Begin the letter by stating exactly what the purpose of the letter is. Even though they probably know, it shows professionalism and that you have a clear idea yourself of exactly what you want. For example, "Please consider me for the 2011-2012 student council" would be a good first sentence after "Dear ___.". 5) In your letter, describe your qualifications. For example, are you involved in any extra-curricular activities at the school, such as a sport or club? Do other students know you as a problem-solver? Do you have a leadership position is any organization, such as scouting? . 6) Include your academic record, if it is good. Are you a good student? Do you turn all assignments in on time? Do you participate in classes? Do you help others, or ask for help when you need it?. 7) If you can tell one interesting story about a decision you made or a difficult problem you solved when dealing with other people, do so. Explain why this experience helps qualify you for the student council.. 8) Tell WHY you want to be on student council, and make sure it has something to do with helping your fellow students, and not for any selfish reason. What would you like to do for your fellow students?. 9) Be brief. Most cover letters are 1-page, single-spaced, maximum.. 10) As a final paragraph, thank your teachers for considering you for student council. Offer to available to them to answer any questions they might have.. 11) AFTER the student council has been chosen, even if they did not choose you, make sure you write a brief thank you letter. Your teachers will remember this down the line, and may choose you for another role or even an award later on, and you want to leave them with a positive impression

This web-site has a lot of good information on writing formal letters to the legal profession. Most of the templates are free to download. good luck
