  • Morris joined Hohmann, Taube & Summers as a partner in 2010. Born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1959, Morris moved to Texas in 1981. In private practice, Morris was with Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP in its Business Finance and Restructuring Group where he practiced for 12 years, the last 3+ as a partner in their Miami office. At Weil, Gotshal & Manges, Morris represented debtors, creditors, creditors' committees, bondholders, purchasers of assets (friendly and hostile), and other parties in interest.

After leaving private practice, Morris served as in-house counsel at both public and private companies (a commercial bank, a holding company, and a brokerage firm). Thereafter, Morris helped analyze distressed credits and then became an investment banker, where he was managing director and head of the department at a boutique broker dealer that raised over $1.3 billion in equity capital; Chief Restructuring Officer for a public company; and a member of board of directors for public and private companies. Morris also has experience chairing an equity committee, serving on creditors' committees, serving as a litigation trustee, overseeing and managing litigation, and evaluating various opportunities in intellectual property. Morris has regularly collaborated with lawyers around the country in a variety of situations.

  • HTS was founded in 1994 when Guy Hohmann and Eric Taube - who had been friends since attending law school together at University of Houston - left their firms to start their own practice. Eric had been practicing law in the Austin office of a large Houston firm, and Guy was practicing with a mid-size Austin firm. They established a firm that focused on their practice areas of commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and insurance coverage and that also favored their practice styles - nimble, hard-hitting, and efficient. Robert Summers joined the Firm in 1999, bringing his complex commercial litigation practice from another mid-size Austin firm. In 2000, the Firm became Hohmann, Taube & Summers.

Though all three came from larger law firms, our named partners craved the advantages of practicing law in a smaller, more informal atmosphere. HTS lawyers have the experience, abilities, and resources of big-firm lawyers, but are unburdened by the infrastructure and overhead of large firms. To the client, that means that we are able to be more affordable, flexible, creative, and accountable. We are entrepreneurial and can offer a variety of fee arrangements, including contingent fee agreements.

Our partners share a commitment to maintaining balance between an aggressive law practice and a well-rounded life. They have created a firm environment that is relaxed and responsible. In addition to being zealous advocates for our clients, the Firm is committed to being a good corporate citizen of Austin as well. Our attorneys volunteer their time to myriad community activities, performing pro bono legal services and other volunteer work for organizations like Volunteer Legal Services, Austin City Limits, the Texas Hill County Wine & Food Festival, South Austin Little League, West Austin Youth Association, Meals on Wheels, and many others. The Firm and its attorneys also donate generously to local organizations like Volunteer Legal Services, Travis County Women Lawyers Foundation, the Austin Museum of Art, the Austin Film Festival, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

We are buying a house that the current owner is selling it through Prudential Relocation Service. So Prudential is the formal "Seller" here. Today, we got back from the seller agent the Post-inspection Agreement form that we submitted a couple of days ago. We were not satisfied with the owner's responses to our repair requests, so we did not sign the form. One thing strange is that the owner's response was not with a signature! We checked with the seller agent, and were told that he would bring it to the relocation company for a signature after we have signed to accept their offer for repair. This just does not make sense to me. How could I get the offered credit (for repair) at closing if they do not sign? Did I miss anything here? Thanks..

referance letter help please?

needs to be average sized cake, need this by next week at the latest.

My apartment building I live in recently left a note saying that they will discontinue providing Basic Cable service as part of the rent. They said they will reduce the rent by 30$ a month to compensate, effective when we sign the new addendum. Now since they are changing the terms of the current contract we signed can we refuse to sign the new terms and move out (which is what we want) early and not suffer an early contract cancellation fee (which is the remainder of the rent at market value)? We both want to move out ASAP because of how dumpy this place is but we have to wait until the lease is over. But, since they are changing the terms we should be able to cancel our contract with them at no fee to us since we do not agree with the new terms that they are imposing.. . I'm not using this in substitution of actual legal counsel so this is just a general idea I am seeking..

My bro in law changed his surname due to not getting along with his family, and has applied for credit half a dozen times and has been told by some financiers that he needs to wait at least 3 years before trying again. Financiers aren't stupid.
