From my experience I generally describe IT programmers as introverts and find they are not very social people. This means if you are extroverted or outgoing you might struggle on an IT team. Working conditions for a programmer varies. Many do work unsociable hours especially if a system goes down or they need to meet a deadline.. . Pay can be good if you have special skill, talent, knowledge, or experience. From what I have seen web site programmers tend to be a mix bag. Reason being for many companies a web site is a way they communicate with their customers and it is not at the core of their business. So web site programming, from what I have seen, tends to be picked up by someone who is in a junior role and is developing their knowledge of the systems being used by the business. Sometimes a business will pick up a web programmer as an entry level position to do site maintenance, design, and basic functions. The key to a web site are the databases, network, and security not programming.
