Most jobs you would apply for at 16 are for places like restaurants, stores, and this sort of place. All of them will have an application procedure. Walk in, tell them you're interested in a job, and ask them what you need to do to apply. No one is going to expect you to know what their procedures are without being told, and no one is going to look down at you for asking.. . Another example, I set the estate income tax return (1041) to be a fiscal year and made sure I passed out all of the estate's income the first year even though the estate wasn't settled yet. By choosing a fiscal year, it moved the heir's tax bill to the following year with plenty of time to make estimated tax payments. The lawyer (and all of the other heirs) promptly wanted to know how the income was taxable (um, duh, it came in after they died), why I didn't have the estate pay it (um, you wanted the money and I didn't think anyone was *in* the 35% tax bracket -- the tax bracket the estate was in) and lastly, was I sure it went on next year's tax return and not this years. (That's what fiscal means, but I quickly sent them copies of the instructions with the section highlighted.)
