My husband and I are looking into retirement funds. We have gotten some information on them and how much to start. We are thinking of just saving money in a cd first and when it builds up enough money go to a mutal funds. Is that a good plan? What should I look for in a Retirement Plan? What company do you feel has a better Retirement Plan?.

First question most of these companies are going to ask is "do you currently have a job?" If you answer that wrong, odds are you are going in the "not optional" pile or the trash. I know it seems rough, but these companies are getting so many applications that in order to weed out, that is what they do a lot of times (Though not ALL the time.) They do this because they think if you are not currently employed then there must be a problem with your work ethic, behavior, or something else... They don't possibly consider the high unemployment rate and in my opinion that is horrible... Not only do they get a tax break for hiring someone unemployed, but they also are weeding out some of the best possible workers... If you think about it, someone who is jobless is going to want a job usually way more and be more motivated to keep it!. . Other then that, look professional and be prepared to talk about your strengths and weaknesses. If you can't improve anything it sounds like you are overselling yourself, however if you have too many weaknesses you sound incompetent. Just the same with your strengths.. . Another great thing you can do is research the company. Know as much as possible about the company you are going to interview with. Also know as much as possible about the person who will be interviewing you as well as who the CEO, president, and major employees of the company are. Knowing the interviewees hobbies and interests can help you become more involved in your interview and hopefully make the interview more comfortable and interesting.. . Dress your best. Even if you are interviewing at McDonalds, you can never be too overdressed. You want to look professional and respectful. Careful, however, you also don't want to look like you are trying too hard... Don't try a wedding dress or tux!. . Bring in copies of your resume and cover letting in a professional binder. It is also helpful to have a pen and paper available.. . Prepare some questions you have for the interviewee. Questions can be about the company, your responsibilities, recent events the company has been involved with, etc. You should also anticipate what questions may be asked and prepare your responses. Remember, an interview is a two way street. You want to know what you are in for, and you want to show you have initiative to find out.. . Act and be engaged in the interview. Sit with good posture and look at the interviewee in the eyes. Be yourself but make sure to remain professional. Ask intelligent and relevant questions and don't be intimidated.. . Avoid going on long tangents when answering questions. Stay brief and to the point-never avoid the question asked. No one wants to sit forever and listen to your life story, so have some curtsy for your potential employer.. . And finally, send a big thank you in card or E-Mail form for even giving you an interview. This is a non-invasive way for them to remember you and also show you are still interested.
